It seems I'm finally on the tail end of the Head Cold that Ate Detroit. It's been two weeks, and finally today I DON'T feel like I'm going to keel over at any minute.

Whenever I could wrangle it, I spent a lot of time on the couch, watching TV and resting, which means I got a lot of knitting done. I finished a mile-long scarf for Sparks, and at current, am working on a sweater for my friend H.'s chihuahua. He's one of those tiny dogs that thinks he is very fierce, so he is getting a black sweater with a gray skull-n-crossbones on the back. It's super-macho, and will keep his tiny little body warm!

I wish I had lot of super interesting things to talk about, but my life the last few weeks has been homework, TV and sleep. I did watch a really interesting documentary on the History Channel last night about the Dark Ages, called, of course, "The Dark Ages" - check it out if you get a chance. Also one called "The Plague" on the black death of the 1450s. Last night was a very upbeat evening.

I'm still trying to figure out this whole body-image thing. Maybe I need to set some easy, but strict, goals for myself and set about meeting those first. Maybe I try to do too much at the start and freak myself out and give up. First goal, to lose ten pounds. That alone will get me to a weight I haven't been in years.

musings on bodily functions

So yes, a week later, and I am still sick. I spent the entire week and much of the weekend sleeping or sacked out on the couch. I really have very little to blog about, because I have done very little the past week. I'm sure you all don't want to hear about the crap I've coughed up from my lungs.

Ok, here's a question. You know how when you're out somewhere, and you need to pee, and you're on the way home and you think "I can wait." Have you ever noticed how just as you walk in the door of your house, your need to pee suddenly increases like 100 fold? It's like your bladder has a radar that KNOWS when a toliet is nearby.

Speaking of pee - I really do not know how my cats manage to pee as much as they do. Have you ever seen the way cats drink water? They lap with just the very tip of their tongues. How do they get any water at all? Yet they can pee like they just drank Lake Michigan.

See, this is where my mind goes when I spend the better part of a week sleeping or watching daytime TV.

cabin fever

turns out i DO have a cold. or at least, whatever crap I had turned into a cold. This morning, i have all the classic cold symptoms. Runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, headache. Most of you are thinking "big deal, I get three colds every winter."

It's a big deal to me, as I'm pretty sure my last cold was some point in the Clinton Administration. I have a lot of sinus trouble and occasionally sinus infections, but that's usually pretty much just the classic headache, and a little sudafed makes it go away. This is kicking my ass. I'm exhausted, I have a fever, and no amount of cold medicine in the world is making me able to breathe through my nose. I woke up this morning and my tongue tasted like a old shoe, from breathing through my mouth all night.

You know what's weird? How the congestion in your head can move around. My nose started getting congested last night (prior to last night, everything was up in my sinus cavaties, and my nose was fine). I was only congested on the right side. I went to bed, and laid down on my back, and after about 10 minutes, was only congested on my left side. When I woke up, it was back on the right. Now it's on the left again. I'm curious about this...

Anyway, I'm back in the office today, because despite the symptoms, I am feeling somewhat better than I felt the last two days. And because I'm completely tired of my apartment. I spent all day Monday at home doing homework, and left only for a few hours to go to class Monday night. That's when I started getting sick, and so until this morning, I hadn't left the house since I got home at 9 pm on Monday.

I'm bored with sleeping and with daytime TV and all my DVDs, so I figured I might as well go to the office and get work done. Otherwise, I might have to do my homework!

i'm sick. yes, me.

ugh. I'm sick. And so now I'm going to whine. I started feeling crappy last night during class. My throat hurt, and I developed a painful chest cough. I went to bed and barely slept all night (I emailed my boss at 5:30 am to say I was taking medicine and hopefully being knocked out, and thus was turning off my alarm). I've felt like total crap all day. The last few hours, I've started developing a fever. I'm sitting at my computer in thin cotton PJs and my shirt is wet from sweat. (ew, over sharing)

I'm not congested, so I don't think I have a cold. I think my sinuses are taking advantage of the sudden weather shift and draining. Very very fast. that doesn't really explain the fever. So I hope I don't have a sinus infection. 'cause that would be the suck.

and I have to get up tomorrow morning and teach a lesson to a bunch of apathetic 5th graders in the most depressing classroom in Chicago. I guess it'll be good practice for my future...

not scurvy, rickets or my gallbladder

thanks to those of you who offered suggestions as to what i might be dying of. despite my drama-queen desire to have a disease never before seen in the medical community, i'm pretty sure it's a simple case of sinusitus. my head hurts enough that it is actually making me feel ill. i started taking some sinus medicine, and it's helped quite a bit.

On Saturday, I'm taking the Illinois Basic Skills Test, which is a test required of all teachers-to-be, to find out if you can read, know proper grammar, and can do math at an 8th grade level. After a little help from my friend Chip, I can now do all three! (Thanks Chip!) I have to be down at McCormick Place at 7:30 am on Saturday for the test (for those of you not from Chicago, this is about an hour to an hour and half of travel for me), so I'm not real pleased. Math is hard enough at regular times, let alone before full light.

mysterious illness...

for the last few weeks, i've been afflicted with some sort of weird illness. "illness" is really too strong a word. i just keep getting sort of nauseous and headachy at weird times, often right after eating. I'll feel sort of off, and i'll think "well, i'm just hungry" and I'll eat, but soon after, I feel sick to my stomach and dizzy or lightheaded.

This has been going on for a few weeks, and as i haven't changed any medications, i'm not sure what it going on in my system.

right now, I feel like i'm about to throw up, and my head is killing me.

how is your day??
